The 2012 US Biochar Conference is designed to advance our understanding of the economic, science and policy issues related to biochar as both an amendment for soils as well as agent to sequester carbon. The conference is focused on practical results, especially regarding biochar production and its use in agriculture. California’s reputation for progressive policy and venture capital resources provide an excellent setting to showcase new innovative technologies like biochar. Sonoma is a leader in agricultural innovation and climate adaptation.
Sonoma County is a prime location to visit in mid-summer. Tours will be available to local wineries and farms. The conference sessions will be held at Sonoma State University, where very reasonably priced three-night on- campus housing package is offered, including all meals; others may choose to stay in nearby hotels. Scholarships may be available, especially for students and representatives from underserved communities.
The 2012 US Biochar Conference is presented by Sonoma Biochar Initiative and Sonoma Ecology Center. The Sonoma Biochar Initiative (SBI) is dedicated to promoting biochar education, production, and use. SBI is sponsored by the Sonoma Ecology Center, a Sonoma Valley non-profit working collaboratively to sustain and enhance ecological health.
